If you or your child is bitten by a dog, you should determine the severity of the wound. Next, you should encourage the owner to take actions to prevent future bites. Then, depending on the severity of the wound, seek medical attention either from your family doctor or the ER. When in doubt, go to the ER. When you go for help, you may be asked to complete a bite report. The bite report will be used by the Health Department to place the animal on a 10-day bite quarantine as a rabies suspect.
