More than a veterinary hospital: a resource for pet owners

by Jason Smith

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to do some marketing in Bardstown and Louisville, Kentucky. My two-year-old son, Josiah, went with me to distribute fliers to veterinary clinics and groomers in our local markets. Everywhere we stopped, the staff impressed me. Special Pets Health Care Center in Bardstown, KY made the greatest impression on me and I wanted to share with my readers about this veterinary hospital.

First, when we went inside, the receptionists behind the receiving desk welcomed us warmly. When asked if we could leave our materials with them, they obliged us by allowing us to place a few copies on a table and post the rest of them to their bulletin board. The bulletin board is at eye-level, so most people are likely to see it before they see the table.

Josiah, a candy addict (we are working on breaking him of this awful habit), noticed a bowl of Halloween candy sitting on the table. He looked up at the receptionist, who helped me pin my fliers to their board, and gestured to the bowl. I looked at him and told him to ask. In his high-pitched voice, he let out a cautious “Pease?” The receptionist permitted him to take some candy.

I asked them for a business card and inquired if they had a website. She said they recently published the web site so they had not printed it on their business card. She generously scrawled the URL on a sheet of notepad paper. This morning, I had opportunity to review the website and I must say I am even more impressed with the wealth of information that is generously available on

When considering a vet clinic to care for your pet, you will first want to look for a vet who practices on your pet’s particular species. The clinicians at Special Pets Health Care Center examine dogs, cats, birds, and rabbits.

Next, when choosing a vet clinic, you will want to find one that is pursuing state of the art medical technology. On top of routine veterinary care, Special Pets Health Care Center also performs laser surgery, stem cell treatments, and acupuncture.

The website has some cool features such as Interactive Animal, which allows the user to gain information on a variety of organ systems for dogs, cats, and horses. It also has a tool to help learn about different canine and feline breeds.

You can also search pet health articles for information related to the wellness of dogs, cats, birds, small mammals, and reptiles.

And if that’s not enough, their video library teaches you about various topics pertaining to dogs and cats. For example, you can learn about administering eye medication, feeding your dog an appropriate diet, or providing post-operative care.
